Vinos de España, Spain Wine Dinner
$185 per person | Reception beginning at 6:45 p.m. and dinner to follow at 7:00 p.m.
The wine trade of the Mediterranean owes a significant debt to Phoenician ships: the grapes they sailed from the Middle East through North Africa, the Mediterranean Islands and the Iberian Peninsula provided the genetic ancestry of the modern Spanish wine. Winemaking flourished under the Romans, who improved on the fragile, large amphorae in use. Despite some decline under Moorish rule, —the sale of wine was illegal, but often tolerated—Spanish wine became renowned throughout Europe for its strength and even found its way as a blending component into wines from France and Italy. In the age of discoveries Spanish wine went forth by supplying the new colonies. After a dark period of phylloxera and civil war Spain‘s wine production rebounded and began to showcase identity through modern techniques, looking both forward and backward for inspiration.
Our tasting dinner showcases unique and historical wines of Spain: A classic aged Rioja Reserva, among other highly rated red wines, an Albariño from Rias-Baixas, sparklng wine, and Pedro ximinez dessert wines.
Please join Chef Christopher Zabita, Pastry Chef Rosana Quintero, and Sommelier David Sauer for a culinary journey through Spain.
