Located in France’s Southern Rhône Valley, Château La Nerthe is one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. It is known for being among the first estates to bottle and export their own wines after Phylloxera hit the Rhône Valley and decimated all the vines in the mid 1800’s.
Château La Nerthe produces red and white wines such as Châteauneuf-du Pape Blanc and Rouge, Côte du Rhone, and even Rose’. On the surface there is a layer of the famous galets, which are large, round stones that originated in the Alps and were carried down to the Rhône by the ice age glaciers. These large pebbles soak in and store the heat during the day and release it at night, keeping the vines warm. This ensures the grapes will ripen evenly and show more complexity in the finished wines.
